Extension Springs

For use on Garage Doors that have Extension Springs rather than Torsion Springs. These springs run parallel to your garage door's tracks rather than mounted above the door. Our Extension Springs come guaranteed for 10,000 cycles and are DASMA (Door & Access Systems Manufacturer’s Association) Color-Coded for easy referance. All of our Torsion and Extension Springs come Oil-Tempered to resist rust and corrosion. Extension Springs are ordered based off the Overall Weight of your Garage Door.

Ex. Overall Door Weight 150lbs--> Select Weight and Height, receive a pair of springs.

Each spring lifts half the weight (75lbs) x 2 = Overall Weight 150lbs

Tips and Tricks

When weighing your garage door it helps to have another pair of hands. Lift the garage door all the way up, relaxing your springs and remove them from the hooks on your tracks. Slowly lower your door without the springs attached, onto your bathroom scale which is located at the center of the door. With both springs disconnected, read the weight shown on your scale. With the springs still removed raise your door a couple feet and lower it back onto the scale in order to insure an accurate reading. If you happen to get a reading between the given increments, 123lbs for example, round to the nearest 10lb increment, 120lbs in this case.

Upon changing your Extension springs, in the down position, if one side of your garage door is higher than the other some adjustment is required. Raise your garage door all the way up, relaxing your springs, and lengthen the support cable to allow that side of the door to go lower, matching the other side when in the down position.

If you notice that a cable pulley is not turning as it should be it may need to be lubricated or replaced. We also recommend running safety cables through the center of your extension springs. In the event of them breaking again down the road, this cable keeps them in place and prevents them from flying across the garage and damaging something or hurting someone.
